Z+F
The medium-sized company Zoller+Fröhlich was founded in Wangen im Allgäu in 1963.
The head office is still located in Wangen close to Lindau and Bregenz by Lake Constance, on the edge of the Alps, in the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg in South Germany.
Crimp-connections with Z+F wire ferrules are now CSA-US certified
Wire ferrules are an established method in solder-less connection technology. The classic wire ferrule is a tinned copper ferrule, which is put on to a stripped wire-end and crimped, thus an elegant connection is created which guarantees an unproblematic insertion into a wire terminal, without bending or damaging individual wire strands.
Wire ferrules are used especially in control-panel manufacturing, installation technology and power distribution applications. One distinguishes wire ferrules with and without plastic collar, where the first ferrules to be on the market were those without plastic collar. Wire ferrules with plastic collar have definite advantages as opposed to un-insulated ones: they offer increased electrical safety (leak currents, voltage break-through, etc.), an increased mechanical stability (protection against bending and breakage) and on the other hand allow a quick visual identification of the wire cross-section via a standardized color plastic collar (DIN 46228 T4).
One of the leading manufacturers of wire ferrules worldwide is Zoller & Fröhlich GmbH (Z+F) in Wangen im Allgäu. The German company, which is located in the three-country region Germany-Switzerland-Austria, is one of the pioneers of wire processing in control-panel manufacturing. Already in 1969, Zoller & Fröhlich invented the first wire ferrule. Z & F still holds the patent on the twin-ferrule, invented in 1991, which allows the simultaneous insertion of two wire-ends.
Recently, Z & F has announced another important step for users of wire ferrules. For several years already, plastic material with UL certification has been used, but a problem remained in terms of certification of the complete wire ferrule according to UL / CSA. This market driven request has been taken seriously and Z+F recently obtained CSA-US certification of the complete crimp connection with wire ferrules and is thus the first company worldwide to offer this approval. The certification includes wire ferrules with and without plastic collar, AWG versions, belt-strips and reels in the cross-section ranges 0,14mm2 – 50mm2 (26 – 1AWG),
(refer to catalogue for an exact listing) and together with hand tools and crimp-machines, certification as a complete system. Certified tools include the well-known Z+F Crimpit series hand tools, as well as Z & F stripper-crimper machines of the ECM, UNIC and AM series.
Certification of the complete connection (wire ferrule and crimping process) according to CSA-US has decisive implications for the worldwide acceptance of Z & F wire ferrules, hand tools and machines. Especially for the US and Canadian markets and countries exporting to that region, CSAUS approval is a requirement. However, not only in these areas, but also in Europe and Asia, this step brings with it a decisive competitive and quality advantage and impressively demonstrates again the innovative activities of Zoller & Fröhlich. It furthermore underlines the leadership of Z & F in the area of solder-less wire connections with respect to all other companies in the market.
